At the time, I owned a Sabre 28, and Will was on the verge of buying an Alberg 35 after previously owning a C&C 41. Because we both like looking at boats and we were fantasizing about “maybe someday” buying a boat together, in the summer of 2020, we went to look at a couple boats. This boat was suggested by the broker with the added bonus that the owner was a “motivated seller.” We fell in love with her the minute we stepped on board in August, decided to make a super low-ball offer, and then went cruising for nine days. At the end of the cruise, we learned that our low-ball offer had been accepted!! Now what?? We had a survey, and she passed with flying colors. I guess this is the universe telling us to go for it! So after only four months together, we owned a boat together! Shortly thereafter, we each sold our respective boats, and it’s been NIRVANA ever since!
In the fall of 2020, we laid her up for winter and read all we could about this strange design with a carbon fiber mast, no stays, and a self-tacking jib. We launched in June, 2021, I rented my house, and we set out to cruise the Maine coast. We love everything about the boat—how easy she is to sail, the spacious interior, the roomy cockpit, the storage, the extra cabin. And living aboard has been a dream come true for both of us!
